Script for the scene from Lamb to the Slaughter

Mary Maloney: ( takes the broom and sweeps the floor, then arranged the chairs, tables, and finally washed her hands and sat down slowly on a chair)

*(Clock starts ticking and Mary Maloney looks at it from time to time)*

*(Pull a chair over the floor and make a noise as if a car has came and stopped on the gravel, then put it down to make a bang! sound as if the car’s door is closing)-do this hidden from the audience’s view*

Mary Maloney: Oh hello, my darling! (opens arm to welcome her husband)
Patrick: Hullo, my dear.
Mary Maloney: (takes his coat(jacket) and hangs it in an imaginary closet.)
Patrick: (Takes large steps a bit unsteadily (don’t overdo it!) towards a chair and slumps into it and sits leg over leg)
Mary Maloney: (Makes the drinks, slowly and gracefully and smiling and after that passes the strong one to Patrick)
Mary Maloney: My dear Patrick, you must be really tired!
Patrick: Yes, I am tired (and drowns the whole glass of whiskey in one gulp although there is still half left)
Patrick: (Stands up, and walks like how he did just now to refill his glass of whiskey)
Mary Maloney: (Flies out of the chair and shouted,) I’ll get it for you my darling Patrick!
Patrick: Sit down! (say it patiently)
Patrick: (Comes back with a glass of dark amber whiskey)
Mary Maloney: Honey, shall I get your slippers for you?
Patrick: No(says it lifelessly)
Mary Maloney: ( Stares at Patrick drinking his whiskey)
Mary Maloney: You know, I think it is a shame to keep a policeman as senior as you walking around the whole day.
Patrick: (Silent, and sitting very still)
Mary Maloney: Should I get you some cheese, darling? I didn’t make any supper today because it is Thursday.
Patrick: No(a bit pissed)
Mary Maloney: If you’re too tired to eat out, it’s still not too late. There’s plenty of meat and stuff in the freezer, and you can have it right there in your sit and not even move an inch/
Patrick: I don’t want it(pissed)
Mary Maloney: But darling, you must eat! I’ll go get some stuff for you, then you can have it or not, as you wish.
Mary Maloney: (Walks out of her chair)
Patrick: Go on, sit down. (indicates Mary’s chair) Just for a minute, sit down.
Mary Maloney: (starts to feel a bit frightened) (sat down on her chair slowly, watching Patrick all the time with her large, bewildered eyes)
Patrick: (Finishes his second drink and stares at the glass, frowning)
Patrick: Listen, I’ve got something important to tell you.
Mary Maloney: What is it, dear, what’s the matter?(a bit panicky)
Patrick: This may be a bit of shock for you, but I have thought about it a good deal and I’ve decided the only thing to do is to tell you right away. I hope you won’t blame me too much.
Patrick: (Starts talking gibberish to Mary Maloney, and her face becomes more and more frightened and angry word after word)
Patrick: So there it is. I know it’s kind of a bad time to be telling you, but there simply wasn’t any other way. Of course, I’ll give you alimony and see you’re looked after. But please, don’t make a fuss about this. It wouldn’t be very good for my job.
Mary Maloney: (breathes heavily, looks a bit dazed)
Mary Maloney: I’ll get the supper.
Mary Maloney: (walks across the room unsteadily and opens the imaginary freezer, and takes the lamb leg on the chair, then later walks a bit more unsteadily from the weight of the lamb leg towards Patrick)
Patrick: (looking out of the window) For God’s sake, don’t make supper for me, I’m going out!(shouting)
Mary Maloney: (walks behind Patrick and swings the lamb’s leg which hits Patrick. Patrick sways a bit, and crashed down.)
Mary Maloney: (blinks, and looks at the leg of lamb she was holding, then at Patrick, and looks surprised.)

(n): The Living Room Scene
(pm): *waver slightly and collapses onto the ground*
(mm):*shocked expression and drops leg of the lamb*
(mm mind): So I killed him. What do I do? The penalty’s fine, in fact, it’ll be a relief. But what about the child? What will they to do women with an unborn child? Will they kill us both? Or will they wait until the tenth month? * then she walks away to the kitchen*

Kitchen~
(n): The Kitchen Scene
(n): it was extraordinary how clear her mind was after murdering her husband, as Mary Maloney shoved the leg of lamb into the oven. She wasted no time and runs to the room.

Room~
(n): The Bedroom Scene
(n): Mary Maloney sat at her dressing corner and tried to tidy up and look presentable. She attempted a smile. It looked peculiar. She smiled again.

(s): Oh, I see. Then how about meat, Mrs Maloney?
(mm): Oh I’ve got meat. I’ve got a nice leg of lamb out of the freezer. I don’t know much about cooking it frozen though, but I’m taking a chance on it this time. Do you think it’ll be all right?
(s): Personally, I don’t think it makes any difference. Would you like these Idaho potatoes?
(mm): Yes, two of those please.
(s): Okay, then how about afterwards? What are you going to give him for dessert?
(mm): Well, what would you suggest, Sam?
(s): Hmm… How about a nice big slice of cheesecake? I know Patrick likes that.
(mm): Perfect. He’ll love it.
(s):*places stones in the plastic bag* All right, thank you and have a good evening, Mrs Maloney.
(mm): Thank you! And goodnight Sam! *smiles and leaves*
Walking Home~
(n): As Mrs Maloney walks home with her grocery, she prepares herself.
(mm mind): All I’m doing now is returning to my husband, who is waiting for his supper. And I must cook it good, as tasty as possible, because he’s terribly tired. And if I enter the house, I shouldn’t find anything unusual, or tragic or terrible, and naturally, it would be a shock.

Living Room~
(n): As Mary entered the house, she saw her husband and was overcome with grief and horror. Mind you, she wasn’t expecting to find anything, she was just returning home with her groceries.
(mm): *shocked and rushes to her husband’s side and kneels down, trying to wake him up as she cries* Patrick darling, are you all right? Wake up! Speak to me!
(n): Immediately, she fishes out her handphone and dials ‘999’.
(mm): *immediately takes out phone from pocket and dial ‘999’ and waits for a while*
(p): Hello? Who is this speaking?
(mm): Quick! Come quick! Patrick’s dead! This is Mary Maloney!
(p): What happened? Who’s dead? Are you sure?
(mm): I think so! I came back home from the grocery shop and he’s dead! My husband, Patrick Maloney! I don’t know how it happened! Come quick!
(p): Rest assured, we’re on our way. Stay there and do not move, Mrs Maloney.

Mary Maloney's Diary Entry

Dear Diary,

I am now feeling a mixture of feelings-sad, scared and relieved. I can't believe I murdered my own husband! But I can't help it as he actually said he wanted a divorce with me when I was pregnant! Furthermore, I had served him faithfully and devotedly and he actually said he wanted a divorce with me! Though that, I must admit that I still feel a little sad for my husband as we had been together for so long. But whatever I am thinking right now will not change this whole incident. After all, I can't rewind time...
Around 5 pm when Patrick was drinking his whiskey after he returned home, he actually told me that he wanted a divorce but offered to give me alimony. At that time, I refused to believe what he said and went to cook a leg of lamb for supper. However, I had no choice but to face the truth as when I carried the leg of lamb upstairs, he told me not to make supper and said that he was going out. Apparently, he did not appreciate what I had done for him. At that point of time, I was very angry and without a seccond thought, I hit him with the leg of lamb. To my utter shock, I actually killed him! Immediately, I thought of a plan. After that, I went to Sam's grocery shop and pretended to buy ingredients to cook supper for Patrick. In this way, I can make use of Sam as an alibi. When I went home, I called the detectives, who are Patrick's friends, and told them a lie. I cried and pretended not to know about this murder. Later part, I got them to eat the leg of lamb which is the evidence!
Although I had escaped arrest today, I know that I can never lead a peaceful life forever. I must continue to act as I know that justice will catch up with me one day.

Judge's arguments for and against Mary accused of the murder of Patrick

Judge's arguments for Mary being accused of the murder of Patrick...

  1. She commited a serious crime.
  2. She lied to the detectives.
  3. She used Sam as her alibi as a form of a backup.
  4. There was no good reason for her to murder Patrick.
  5. She was too impulsive when she carried out the murder.
  6. She lied to Sam even though he was innocent.
  7. She destroyed the evidence(leg of lamb as a form of a weapon)
  8. Patrick offered to give her alimony.

Judge's arguments against Mary being accused of the murder of Patrick...

  1. Patrick was at fault because he wanted a divorce with Mary.
  2. Mary is pregnant at that time, hence she carried out the murder probably due to depression.
  3. Mary was very devoted to her husband and was very upset when she realised that her husband was leaving her.
  4. The murder was unintentional.
  5. Mary was not conscious when the murder was carried out as what Patrick told her was probably a great blow to her.
  6. Patrick did not care for Mary's feelings as he should not have told her when she was pregnant.
  7. Mary had a mixture of feelings when she murdered Patrick but could not help it as she was too angry.

Movie review of "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief""

The gist of the movie "Percy Jack and the Lightning Thief" is about Percy Jackson, son of Posseidon, god of the sea, being accused by Zeus, Posseidon's brother, of stealing the lightning bolt which is the universe's most powerful weapon, and if the lightning bolt was not returned in 14 days, there would be war between them. In school, Percy Jackson had trouble reading english words but when the class went on a trip to a museum, he could read those greek words. And it was at the museum where his life changed totally. His teacher, a bat-like monster, demanded the lightning bolt from him but fortunately, Mr Brunner who was his Latin teacher was actually Chiron,a Centaur, half-horse and half-man and rescued him with the monster escaping. After that incident, Percy Jackson knew that he was half blood and also received a pen which was actually a sword from Mr Brunner. Percy was then brought to Camp-Half Blood which was a training ground for all half-bloods and realises that his best friend, Grover, was a satyr and his protector. Percy's mother then got captured in a Minotaur attack. Hades, one of the three gods, threatened to kill Percy's mother if he did not give the lightning bolt to him. In the end, Percy together with Grover and Annabeth journeyed to the underworld with the three pearls and along the way meeting monsters. When they reached there, they found out that Percy was framed by Luke as the shield that he gave them contained the lightning bolt. Fortunately, Hades' wife shot him with the lightning bolt and he fainted. As there were only three pearls, Grover decided and let the others leave without him. After that, Percy fought with Luke and after defeating him, Percy went to Zeus. In the end, he returned the lightning bolt and told the truth.

I like this movie because of the different types of monsters and the way Percy and his two friends battled them. It was very thrilling to see them how they handled the monsters and I was practically sitting at the edge of my seat while watching the movie! Though that, I felt that there could have been a struggle between Hades and Percy to make the movie more interesting. Also, the movie was a much shorter version of the storybook. Some parts such as Percy fighting the Ares, the God of War was not included in the movie. Characters such as Nancy Boofit were not included too. Nevertheless, I feel that this is a movie not to be missed!

100-word essay on why I like the book better than the movie
I like the book more than the movie mainly because the book has more fights and struggles between Percy Jackson and the different creatures he faced which makes the booking more thrilling and interesting, unlike the movie which includes only two fights-fight between Medusa and the Hydra. One thing I like about the book is that the description of each creature is very vivid and I could imagine the image of the creature. Also, in the movie, I feel that the part when Percy Jackson went to Hades for negotiation was to boring and not at all engaging except when he almost released the hellhounds. There was almost no struggle between Percy Jackson and Hades. In the book, the best part was during the fight between Percy Jackson and Ares, the god of war. I thought initially that Percy Jackson would not win Ares but would not die as Percy Jackson was not very experienced in fighting, but instead, Percy Jackson won after great struggle.

50-word passage taken from the Book
He slashed againand I was forced to jumponto dry land. I tried to sidestep, to get back to the water, but Ares seemed to know what I wanted. He outmanoeuvred me, pressing so hard I had to put all my concentration on not getting sliced into pieces. I kept backing away from the surf. I couldn't find any opening to attack. His sword had a reach a metre longer than Anaklusmos.

Ten differences between the Book and the Movie of "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief"

1) Characters such as Clarrise and Nancy Bobofit were in the book but not in the movie.
2) There was a fight between Ares and Percy Jackson in the book but not in the movie.
3) The book talked about Thalia, the daughter of Zeus, being the pine tree but the movie did not.
4) The hydra was included in the movie but not in the book.
5) The Chimera was included in the book but not in the movie.
6) Percy Jackson and Annabeth entered the trap at the water park in the book but not in the movie.
7) Both the lightning bolt and the helmet of darkness was stolen in the book but only the lightning bolt was stolen in the movie.
8) It was Ares who stole the lightning bolt in the book while it was Luke who stole it in the movie.
9) Percy Jackson was attacked by the poisonous scorpion in the book but it was not included in the movie.
10) Percy Jackson was given the three pearls directly in the book while he had to go through many difficulties before receiving the three pearls in the movie.

Movie review of "Avatar"

Basically, the gist of the movie "Avatar" is about the sky people who are the humans trying to drive off the native humanoid race called Na'vi who inhabits a palnet called "Pandora" so that they can mine precious and valuable material scattered throughout the place. In exchange for a spinal surgery to cure his paralysed legs, the war paraplegic veteran named Jake Sully is supposed to gather information from the Na'vi using an avatar identity. The humans created machines that could connect their mind to the avatar's mind. However, when Jake knew the evil intentions of Colonel Quaritch, the leader of the army, he decided to protect Pandora instead. Colonel Quaritch became restless and went for war against Pandora, destroying many living things on that planet. Jake became the leader in the war after Neytiri's father died during the first invasion of the humans and after Jake caught the red bird, the most important of all kinds. With the combination of all the tribes on Pandora, Pandora eventually won the battle and Jake remained on that planet after that.

I find this movie extremely thrilling and attention-grabbing as there are many creative and interesting things such as mushroom-like plants that could shrink to an extremely small size when being touched. The movie had also emphasized on the process in which Jake learnt the essential skills as an avatar. These details may be minor but they really tell us a lot about the life in the Na'vi tribe. In my own opinion, the most exciting part was during the war where I can feel a sense of unity on the planet of Pandora. This movie is no typical movie as it includes "people" the height of 3m and many other unusual stuff. Even though I watched the movie in 2D, I still feel that it was a movie worth watching and I believe the movie would be even better in 3D as you will definitely feel as though you are in the movie itself. This movie had really left me a very deep impression. It is a movie highly recommended for all to watch!

Ten Questions about "Avatar"

  1. Why wasn't Jake Sully accompanied with more people when they first went to Pandora?
  2. How did the humans bring so many large military machines to Pandora?
  3. Why didn't Jake Sully know about the evil intentions of Colonel Quaritch?
  4. Why must Jake Sully record himself everytime he returns?
  5. How did the humans find out about Pandora?
  6. How did the humans know about the valuable minerals hidden in Pandora?
  7. Why didn't the Na'vi tribe suspect Jake Sully initially and instead brought him into the tribe?
  8. How did Jake Sully bond with Toruk, the most important creature in Pandora, when others being more experienced than Jake cannot?
  9. Did the humans know about the range of dangerous and wild creatures which can be found on Pandora?
  10. Were the military machines specially designed to defend against the ferocious creatures in Pandora?
